About the Union Tools Hedge Shear

Union Tools, Inc. designed this Taiwanese manufactured hedge shear to attain their highest tool grade, earning it the "Razorback" designation. At CLS, we rate this product to meet the "prosumer" class of tools. While not having the length of service expectations of a Corona hedge shear CLS# 13-16 list $79.00, (CLS price $49.00), the Union Razorback hedge shear retains an outstanding price to quality ratio.

The 17-1/2" cast aluminum handles (25-1/2" overall length) allow for extra reach while maintaining a lightweight, 1 lb. 9 oz. shear that lessens fatigue during extended use. Bright red and black handles are easily seen against green foliage. The aluminum handles have a tough plastic insert that provides a comfortable, secure grip and a slight hook at the handle end for excellent control when pruning in the extended reach position. Dual, press fit, rubber bumpers reduce shock and vibration to the hands while producing less noise.

The shorter 8", high carbon steel, cutting blades maintain a precise scissors action that promotes accurate, sculpting style pruning. Our field testing has shown that over 90 percent of the working, cutting surface of a hedge shear is accomplished along about 7" of the blade. This indicates that longer hedge shear blades which also weigh more, may not offer improved performance or faster cutting.
